Connectors don't connect

Updated: 6 days ago

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but why are we subjected to such a (only slightly) different connection system to our phones, iPads, and computers? I have to keep multiple cables to connect the various items that I own: a laptop, a Google phone, hearing aids, not to mention the iPhone my wife uses, and the particular laptop she uses.

The Frustration of Compatibility

This has no good reason, other than the superiority that manufacturers feel their system is the best. They all work tolerably well, so why can't manufacturers agree on a standard connection for everyone to use? Don't tell me that's impossible for a group of intelligent, computer-savvy people. And they want us to spend inordinate amounts of money to keep their equipment working.

Talk about a scam! The biggest scam, as far as I can see, is the way companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, and others operate. They've found a way to profit from those of us who want to stay current with modern technology, at minimal risk. How come Bill Gates or Steve Jobs became so rich? They had a simple idea and the technological know-how to make it a reality. Is that a reason for someone to make a massive amount of money?

The Capitalist Dilemma

To a capitalist, I believe they think it is. But in a democracy, which is intended to look after everyone's interests, I don't think so. Not to sound too cry-baby, take a situation like mine. I became a teacher, in charge of the future generations' intellectual growth (amongst a myriad of other things, I might add). The remuneration we received was livable, but only just, and I had to find other jobs to do in my (spare!) time to enjoy any real comforts of life. Now, is that fair?

It didn't matter whether I was in the UK or Canada; the financial rewards were equally disrespectful, and the expectations equally excessive. I did my best for society, positively (I hope) impacting hundreds of kids. But that's not the issue. Yes, I would have liked to have come out better financially, but seeing people make money from exploiting others and making umpteen times the amount I do is disheartening.

The Misunderstanding of Socialism

Why do people assign a negative connotation to the words Socialist and Socialism? When you look at their meanings, there is not much a rational person can disagree with, unless you are a member of the rich and "entitled" class. I don't have a vendetta against the rich and prosperous, but I do object to the fact that, for the most part, they gained their status through using the gullibility of people like me.

The Need for Change

So, what can we do about this? It’s time we start demanding more from the systems in place. We need to advocate for transparency and fairness in how companies operate. Why should we settle for a world where a handful of people control the majority of wealth?

Finding Common Ground

We can also seek common ground with others who feel the same way. There’s power in numbers, after all. If we band together, we can push for change. Whether it's through social media campaigns, community organizing, or simply having conversations with friends and family, every little bit helps.

Embracing Our Stories

Now, let’s pivot a bit. While I’ve been ranting about the tech world and capitalism, there’s something else I want to touch on. Have you ever thought about your family history? It’s fascinating to uncover where we come from and how our ancestors lived. It can be a great way to connect with our roots and understand the struggles they faced.

If you’re interested in diving into your family history, I recommend checking out resources that can help you with genealogy research. It’s amazing to learn about the lives of those who came before us. You never know what stories you might uncover!

Conclusion

In conclusion, while we navigate the complexities of technology and capitalism, let’s not forget to explore our own histories. It’s a journey worth taking, and who knows? You might just find that the stories of your ancestors can provide a new perspective on the challenges we face today.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to take a closer look at your family history? It might just be the adventure you didn’t know you needed.
